Lucky Blue's Blues....

Please visit bunnyworldfoundation.org/donate to help this little one -- 'Lucky Blue' found himself at East Valley Animal Shelter (LAAS) - Discarded like garbage. Upon seeing his pained but sweet face on the Blue-Alert list, we contacted Animal Control inquiring about his injuries.  

Medical records read:

- Rabbit has purulent discharge inside left ear canal.

- Left ear has puncture wound with caseous discharge that can be squeezed from hole.

- Left ear is crinkled.

- Left eye - can not visualize globe.

- Hard swelling below left mandible.

- R/O pasteurella infection - "lumpy jaw"

We didn't wait -- Sat. May 9, our volunteer rushed to the shelter, grabbed 'Lucky Blue' and took him to BWF temporary foster where this poor soul received loving before being taken to our Vet, where he was prepped for the immediate surgery!

On May 15, Dr. Roberts wrote: "I attached some photos of Lucky Blue after his enucleation, ear surgery, and jaw abscess treatment. He is doing very well, and he is such a good-natured and friendly bunny, my entire staff is in love with him.

Since he turned blue on us and tried to die as we were working on his jaw abscess, and we had to revive him in a hurry, we may need to do more with that abscess at a later date. He also still needs to be neutered.

He has stitches in his ear that will need to be removed in 3-4 weeks, and he is on antibiotics - (oral enrofloxacin and injectable Pen-BP), and metacam, and gets Silver Sulfadiazine Cream on his ear once daily.

So far, his expenses are at approximately $1,600. He could go home tomorrow if you can arrange transport and have a foster available to take special care of this very special bunny."

HELP US HELP TARO & MACCHIATO!

This week, we took two very special souls under our wing; Macchiato & Taro. Born November of last year to a distressed young mother, both siblings suffered limb loss as infants. Mother rabbits who are stressed out of their minds, (as most young mothers are), have been known to chew on their babies as a desperate coping mechanism / stress reaction. Sadly, and by no fault of their poor mother, such were the injuries suffered by these two little ones.

While Macchiato's missing paw has less severe lasting damage, Taro's devastating loss of one ear, one leg, and one foot, rendered her nearly immobile; able only to scoot and drag her body around. Young, vulnerable, and tiny - both under two pounds -Taro & Macchiato were left to suffer without medical intervention or assistance. We knew we had to help.

Once we had them, both little ones were seen by our Vet, where they were hospitalized for two days; receiving spayed and neutered procedures, diagnostic testing, and x-rays. Our Vet has many treatment ideas for Taro’s condition to ensure her a long, happy life of free and painless mobility, like her brother. But we need your financial support to do so.

Taro & Macchiato are such a special pair who share an intensely deep love bond formed by their shared traumatic experiences of having their limbs bitten off. While Macchiato can run and walk with relative ease, he knows that Taro cannot, and shows patience and care with his baby sister. Macchiato frequently found kissing and grooming his beloved sister, and cuddling her as they sleep. If little Taro is scared by a loud noise, Macchiato will run to comfort her, and she will only then relax. Macchiato is Taro’s support system, and is so caring and loving... he, more than anyone, wants to see his sister thrive, hoping in his bunny heart that someday she can join him as he runs around.

With our Veterinary debt at $12,000, we are financially struggling to proceed in this pairs' path to full medical rehabilitation. We know that times are tough, and many feel minor contributions don't help... but the truth is that every dollar counts.

We pulled MANNY & AMERI out of two Los Angeles shelters - (Harbor & East Valley) - where both little ones had languished since 2018 -- and not without consequences. MANNY - in better shape... but AMERI was a mess... judging by the infection and lesions on her, she suffered that way for some time... urine scald eating at her skin.

Ameri & Manny require full Vet exams, and Ameri will need sanitary shave, pain meds, antibiotics, fluids, topical meds, probiotics, etc., as well as CBD oil and other holistic aid for her joints and immune system.

So shameful that an animal shelter in our system let Ameri suffer like that! Los Angeles Animal Services (LAAS) is a taxpayer-funded agency with a large budget -- AND receives additional donations -- no excuse for letting poor souls like Ameri sit burning in urine.
