Sweet Pea's Plea
Email Article | Monday, October 19, 2020
Sweet Pea (Little Munchkin) was literally snatched from the jaws of early death: A BWF family member spotted the infant under attack by a cat in a Bakersfield apartment courtyard. At barely 3-4 weeks of age, this dumped, helpless, a wisp of a being was almost a snack for outdoor cats; predators that cause devastation to wildlife and victims like Sweet Pea.
The poor abandoned infant was thrown like garbage to the streets, with the broken back, and zero hope of survival -- (likely dumped by a breeder who had no use for a ''broken'' bunny... or by someone who bought this un-weaned baby and mistreated her).
Miraculously, our quick-thinking hero reacted instantly, pulling Sweet Pea from the cat's mouth; after which, he and his girlfriend -(Vegan bunny-advocate and BWF family) - gave the baby proper nourishment, warmth, and a cozy box where she could get her bearings and avoid moving too much. Most importantly, they gave her love; which she responded to immediately... the precious gift of touch and nurturing protection she'd been desperately missing from her mother.
With no time to spare, the remarkable BWF machinery swung into action once again, and mobilized transport for Sweet Pea from distant Bakersfield to eventually Northwood Animal Hospital in Irvine; a convoy that involved several BWF family, and an overnight stay with BWF married Vegan bunny-advocates where she was tended to all night until the morning convoy to the Vet.
All along the way, this angelic, love-giving spirit kept up the fight, enduring her broken back, puncture wounds, trauma, and uncertain future with grit and determination. She's a real survivor who never gave-in to self-pity. Her displays of affection show that she is a budding little love-bug. Now she just needs someone to love her back... for life.
Sweet Pea is currently hospitalized and spending a night with our vet. If you'd like to make a donation towards her exam, x-rays, medication, and potential surgery, please contact Northwood Animal Hospital tomorrow morning at (949) 559-1992. They accept $100+ donations. Otherwise, there's always PayPal and ANY amount is welcome. http://www.bunnyworldfoundation.org/donate/
Our vet bill is currently $15,435.54. We rescue 50- 75 bunnies a month. Typically, we bring 10 - 15 bunnies a week for exams and surgeries. Thank you for your help!
