GARRY IS HOSPITALIZED. ANOTHER BROKEN BONE, ANOTHER SURGERY! :(

What's happening here? Are we attracting all the bunnies with broken limbs into our foster system?  :(  Garry is the 4th rabbit we took in that required a broken bone surgery.  There were BUTTONS, HONEY, BOK CHOY just a few weeks prior.   

We pulled Garry directly from North Central Animal Shelter yesterday and rushed him to Northwood Animal Hospital. Dr. Roberts operated on him immediately and was able to save his paw.  He will be in cast for a month or two. If you're able to FOSTER Garry, please contact us at info@bunnyworldfoundation.org.

ANOTHER HOSPITALIZED BROKEN LEGGED AMPUTEE, BOK CHOY, NEEDS HELP!

Two months ago, we rescued Buttons from East Valley Animal shelter (LAAS) who had a broken leg. The pin surgery was successful, his leg saved, and Buttons is up for adoption now.  Then, there was Honey, a month later from the West Valley Animal shelter (LAAS) with a broken leg that was ALSO pinned and is healing nicely.  Not out of the woods yet, but at least no amputation on the horizon.

Bok Choy was found by a Good Samaritan, and surrendered to Bunny World Foundation. He was emaciated, in pain, and on the brink of dying.  Even the vet refused to do surgery on him due to his skeletal state.  The Bunny Lady took him in for a couple of weeks, syringe fed him, stabilized him and got him to the point where surgery was now possible. 

Unfortunately, Bok Choy was not as lucky as Buttons and Honey, and his leg needed to be amputated.  He’s been hospitalized for almost a month and we’d like to get him out TODAY is possible. There’s a possible adopter next weekend, but the funds are needed to cover his Vet Bill.

Dr. Roberts says: “I think Bok Choy will do fine. He's really tough and seems to already be hopping around pretty well.” 😊

ANOTHER HOSPITALIZED BROKEN LEGGED BUNNY – HONEY - NEEDS HELP!

Two months ago, we rescued Buttons from East Valley Animal shelter (LAAS) who had a broken leg. Surgery was successful, and Buttons will be up for adoption soon.  

Last week, however, the West Valley Animal Shelter (LAAS) called us about another pair of bunnies dumped to the shelter – Milk aka Emma & Honey.  Both bunnies were having GI Stacis, and Honey’s leg was broken. The shelter couldn’t provide medical assistance, hence the call to BWF instead of euthanasia.

BWF volunteers mobilized quickly and rescued the pair! Our volunteer LIZ R. pulled Honey from the shelter and took him to Buttons’ foster, JEANINE S., in Anaheim.  Jeanine then took Honey to our vet in Irvine for surgery & treatment.

Honey is STILL hospitalized.  The vet tried to save the leg with splint/cast. If splint/cast fails, the leg will need to be amputated. Since Honey is very young, the splint will need to be changed every 2-3 weeks under general anesthesia to accommodate the bone growth.  

WE NEED FOSTER WHO WILL TAKE ON BOTH HONEY & MILK UNTIL HONEY'S LEG HEALS.  IF YOU CAN HELP, PLEASE E-MAIL US.

IN ADDITION, BWF needs $2,000 to cover the following: GI Stacis Treatment, Radiology, Splint, Surgery, Radiology – Recheck Films, and Medication.  In case of amputation there will be an additional cost, but let’s hope the latter won’t be necessary. URGENT: A BABY WITH A BROKEN LEG NEEDS SURGERY SPONSOR!

Why are people so selfish and cruel? Why do you get a pet, break his leg, and then dump him at the PUBLIC shelter instead of taking him to the vet and doing the due diligence?

BWF got a call from LAAS on Dec 15 about a 9-week old Netherland Dwarf baby with a broken leg. The shelter was about to euthanize him, so BWF mobilized and stepped up to the plate! CLICK HERE FOR BUTTON'S STORY.

One of our volunteers pulled “Buttons” from East Valley late afternoon and took him to BWF hub in Silverlake for the initial evaluation and treatment.  Another volunteer showed up at 10pm and transported Buttons to yet another volunteer/foster in Anaheim.  She then took him to our vet in Irvine this morning for treatment.

The x-rays showed a fairly clean mid tibia/fibula with lots soft tissue swelling, so our vet decided to try to save the leg with splint/cast. If splint/cast fails, the leg will need to be amputated. 

 

We’re happy to say that Buttons' innitial surgery and splint/cast procedure under general anesthesia went well. Since Buttons is very young, the splint will need to be changed every 2-3 weeks under general anesthesia to accommodate the bone growth.  

BWF needs help with: Radiology, Splint, Surgery ($500), Radiology – Recheck Films ($300), and Medication ($200).  In case of amputation there will be an additional cost of $1,6 K, but let’s hope the latter won’t be necessary. BWF Awarded a $10K Grant by Petfinder Foundation for the 20th Anniversary Grant

Bunny World Foundation is deeply honored to be one of the 24 recipients of the Petfinder Foundation 20th Anniversary Grant.
